Combination of IT and people’s activity to support operations, management, and decision-making. Not just referring to Information  Communication Technology (ICT) that is used in an organization, but also  the interaction between people and technology to support business process. It’s a BIG Thing What is IS?

History 1930 – manual systems used 1939 -  reservations are handled in “reservation’s office” 1946 - Reservisor 1952 – Magnetronic Reservisor 1953 – IBM got involved 1959 - $30 million investment in new, high risk, passenger reservation teleprocessing system 1964 – Sabre installed for internal passenger reservation processing 1968 – IBM sells similar system to other airlines, PARS 1970 – AA selected PARS as the updated basis of Sabre
In the 1960s, SABRE had handled a very large number of transactions, such as 83,000 daily phone calls The system took over all booking functions at 1964 In 1980s Sabre offer online reservations Then Sabre had become a publicly traded corporation, Sabre Holdings The system is used by a large number of companies, such as Eurostar and SNCF Used by travel agents, airlines, car-rental companies, hotels, dozens of railways, tour companies, ferries, and cruise lines Most important, Sabre has brought a large revenue for American Airlines SABRE
